Wicklewood well beaten at Melton Park
The midweek A team opened up their Wicklewood Shield campaign with a fixture against Wicklewood themselves at Melton Park on Wednesday 11 June. Skipper Chris Elliott won the toss with opposite number and former Melton player Ben Mann and chose to bat. Lee Whiddett made 10 but Beefy kicked on to make 24 before he was deceived by a slower ball and caught and bowled by Mann. This reunited Jon Moxon and Matt Clarke who had batted well two days earlier in the Wensum Cup. They continud that form putting on 74 at a good pace. Moxon went for 43 containing six fours but Clarke was undefeated on 61 with nine boundaries.
Melton’s total of 162-3 in their 20 overs was an imposing one but was put under early threat by Mann’s quickfire 25. Wickets fell regularly around him though with Adam Thompson bowling a great spell (4-0-7-2) on his return to Melton action. In truth once Mann departed WIcklewood never looked like threatening Melton. Daryl Godbold (3-1-10-1) and Neal Clarke bowled (3-0-11-2) tidily and Kyle Mason bagged the final wicket as the visitors were all out for 67. The next group fixture is a visit to Hardingham where a win will see Melton into semi-finals.
