Whiting’s Ensure a Norwich Victory Over U15s

GREAT MELTON U15s lost to NORWICH B U15s by 48 runs at Melton Park in the South Norfolk Community League

The Whiting brothers produced match-winning performances as Norwich B proved just too strong for Melton U15s in the South Norfolk Community League.  M. Whiting scored 43 and N. Whiting retired having reached 50 as Norwich made 123-3 in their 16 overs.  Melton's bowlers, helped by Nat Buxton's athleticism behind the stumps, gave few extras away but there was a tendency to bowl one short ball or full toss per over which Norwich usually dispatched to the boundary.  James Bridges (1-14), Caitlin Ellis (1-28) and Cassie Mawby (1-11) were the wicket-takers while Kit Fordham held onto a good catch to dismiss Buzz Kemp (11).

Melton needed a good start if they were to chase down 123 but, although Rebecca Greenslade (6) and Kai Wilkinson-Loines added 45 for the first wicket they could not score quickly against some accurate bowling and, by the time Rebecca was dismissed, 10 overs had elapsed.  Wilkinson-Loines, who played some good shots in his 31, Josh Wright (9), Mawby (0) and Bridges (0) all perished in an attempt to up the tempo and Melton's inning closed on 75-5, 48 runs short of Norwich's total.  Kemp took 2-5 off 3 overs with the two Whitings grabbing a wicket apiece to complete what was, for them, a very good match.
