Great Melton U13s beat Sheringham U13s by 10 wickets at Sheringham in the Nat West ECB National Competition County Semi-Final
Melton U13s made it to the Norfolk final of the Nat West ECB Competition with a 10-wicket win away a Sheringham. In a game reduced to 12 overs per side due to rain, Sheringham batted first and scored 52 for 5, plus 1 retired. Melton’s bowlers work hard to restricted
their opponents backed up by some great fielding. There were catches for Craig Attewell, Marcus Mawby, Joey Greenslade, a caught-and bowled for Matt Rennie and a stumpping for Greenslade. Melton’s openers Rob Smith (15) and Greenslade (29) know they would have to concentrate with Sheringham’s opening pace bowler getting the ball to shoot though and the next one to pop up off the damp wicket. With both boys playing positively they chased down Sheringham’s score in just 8 overs, taking Meltons U13s into the final where they will meet who else Swardeston!
Great Melton U13s beat Mulbarton U13s by 3 wickets at Melton Park in the South Norfolk Community League
Connor Stearman scored his maiden half-century for Melton, hitting 57 not out in Melton’s win over Mulbarton. Mulbarton scored 110 for 3 after being put into bat first, losing the first wicket in the 3rd over, Matthews edging the ball to wicket keeper Alex Tonnison off the bowling of Ben Carding. There was a wicket for Matt Rennie, clean bowling Whitlock for 35 and the 3rd wicket saw Morton (34) run out in the final over with 27 in extras helping Mulbarton to post a defendable total. Melton lost Ben Carding (4) in the 3rd over bringing Connor Stearman to the crease and he and Rob Smith (22) hit some great shots, putting on over 50 odd before Rob was caught. With Sam Carding caught for 7 and Alex Tonnison run out for 1, the scores were tied after the 15th over and it was down to Craig Attewell to support Stearman who hit his 11th four with 2 balls remaining, Melton finishing on 114-4.
