Under 13s Win at Swardeston

GREAT MELTON U13s beat SWARDESTON B by 60 runs at Hilltops in the Alan Bridgewater Competition

An enthusiastic and very competent performance from the U13s overcame a plucky Swardeston B side at Hilltops.

Josh Wright and Jack Gorman opened the Melton innings and a series of late cuts and pull shots along with good running enabled a partnership of 54 to develop in just over 8 overs before Jack retired. James Bridges joined Josh and 3 powerful boundary shots and keen running accelerated the scoring even more before sharp fielding ran out James. When Josh retired, Ben Granville and Sam Johnson (skipper for the evening) both played quality cover drives and pressurized the fielding team into yielding 21 off the final 2 overs to set a formidable score of 111-1 from 16 overs. Alfie Evans was the tightest of the Swardeston bowlers with 2-0-8-0.

The bowling and fielding performance from the Melton team was of a high quality. The attack opened with James Bridges and Jack Williamson bowling with good pace and accuracy, yielding only 9 runs from the first 4 overs. A good catch running back at point by Josh Wright accounted for opener Matthew Doyland in Jack Williamson second maiden over.

Kai Wilkinson-Loines kept wicket with distinction throughout the innings, only conceding 2 byes, and one leg side take from James Bridges was note worthy.
After Rebecca Greenslade had caught Harry Potter at cover off Ben Granville's first ball, the best partnership of the innings (32) developed between opener Joseph Warman and Revanth Roy (9).

However, when Rebecca was brought on to bowl, Revanth was induced into cutting uppishly to point where Josh Wight took his second catch. Two balls later Arjan Kamash was caught and bowled to give Rebecca her second catch.   A quick piece of fielding by Ben Granville lead to Joseph Warman being run out in the next over for a creditable 21. Josh Wright and Ben Granville bowled out the tail to leave Melton the winners by 60 runs in a match played with a good spirit.
