Under 11s Too Strong For Mattishall
Great Melton U11s beat Mattishall U11s by 113 runs at Mattishall Playing Field in the Terry Moore Trophy
Having been asked to bat, the Melton team set about building a good total right from the off. Finlay Hughes (20*) and Jack Gorman (4) ran very well in a partnership of 43 for the loss of only 1 wicket. Sam Johnson (3*), Oliver Leinster (6*), Will Singleton (2*) and James Carter (5*) also added to the total against occasionally wayward bowling. Saxon Earley (20*) and Matthew Carter (13*) then accelarated towards the end of the innings. The quality of the shot making and running between the wickets was noteworthy throughout. Great Melton finished with a total of 340-1, a nett 335
Chasing a formidable total, Mattishall struggled early on against accurate bowling from Finlay Hughes (3-0-11-2) and James Carter (3-0-11-2). Jack Gorman (2-0-7-1) and Matthew Carter (2-1-1-2) kept the pressure on, helped by keen fielding. At the half way stage, Mattishall were 222-7. A spirited finish, particularly by Ben Chapman (21*), put some pressure on the Melton team late on and took the score to 257-7, though the result was never in doubt, Melton eventually winning by 113 runs. Skipper Finlay Hughes completed a good all-round performance by taking 2 sharp slip catches.
The game was played in a friendly and positive spirit throughout.
