Under 11s maintain 100% record

An unbeaten U11 side took to the field full of confidence this morning against a Garboldisham side who had won their previous 2 matches in the SNCL and were topping the table. Melton lost the toss and were put into bat. Skipper Corey Rushton opened the batting with Sam Davey under instructions to see off the opening bowlers with wickets intact. Coach, Matt, could only shake his head when the first ball was dispatched by Corey for 4 runs and the pair put on 17 in the first 2 overs. Corey retired in the 5th over after reaching 31 from 19 balls. Harrison Cunningham joined Sam at the crease and the pair batted well to take the total to 69 before Sam was bowled by D.Worby for 20 runs. Ben Gaskin (18) carried on his good run of form to take the total to 111 before he was run out after an excellent piece of fielding from O.Lambert. Harrison (22) was eventually caught by E. Hart and William Bailey (8*) and Jack Ballam (5*) then took Melton to 129/3 off their 16 overs.

U11 Captain – Corey Rushton

The total always looked like it was going to be a tall order but became insurmountable as the home team found themselves 10/3 after just 3 overs. Ben (2-0-3-2) took the first wicket of D.Starling (0) from the 2nd ball of the innings, followed by the crucial wicket of E. Hart (6) in the 3rd over and Adithya Velu (2-0-12-1) bowled D.Worby (0). Melton kept their cool and continued to bowl accurately and the rest of the wickets soon fell. Oliver Wormstone (2-1-2-1) and Jack (2-0-9-1) both picked up wickets in their first game for the U11s this season. At the end of 8 overs the score was 26/5. 2 balls later the match was all over. In form spinner, Harrison (0.2-0-0-2) took the final wickets of O.Harris (0*) and L.Worby (0) only to leave the field disappointed that he was not able to complete his hat-trick (at least the Chairman will be happy – the match ball has not been given away!). An excellent display from both experienced and new players alike. Well done.
