U9s Lose to Norwich in a Close Match

Great Melton Under 9s lost by 13 runs to Norwich CC in the South Norfolk Community League.

Fielding first, Great Melton restricted the home team to 177 for 3 (162). In his first match for the Club, Charlie Hosmer bowled very well and was rewarded with a wicket. Evan Mercer and James Alcock also took wickets with some accurate bowling. Nicholas Conway was in typical brave form behind the stumps. Unfortunately, there were many wides and no balls, but the winning score was well within the team's range.

Nicholas and Jake Tomkins opened for Gt Melton. Evan Mercer and Luke Davies batted with concentration and were the only pair not to lose a wicket. Powerful batting by George Alcock brought 14 runs and with his partner Freddie taking every opportunity for a quick single or a bye, the scoreboard changed to a victory being more likely for Great Melton. Charlie and James were the final pair and continued to move Great Melton towards a winning position. James scored an excellent 16. Charlie ran very fast and again this brought rewards through byes and quick singles. The final over needed the batters to hit out for the win, which in turn would increase the risk of losing wickets. The result could have gone either way but Norwich sealed the win with 3 wickets in 4 balls.

The result was soon forgotten, as a birthday cake for Freddie and hot dogs provided by our hosts were consumed in rapid time.
