U9s First Win…and It’s Against Swardeston!

GREAT MELTON U9s beat SWARDESTON U9s by 35 runs at Melton Park in the John Dewing Cup

Gt Melton under 9s won their first match of the season beating Swardeston by 35 runs. Batting first, the opening pair of Max Wilson and Henry Marsh made a solid start scoring 19 without loss. The middle order of Max Howard, Cassie Mawby, Alice Greenslade and Corey Rushton were resolute in defence losing just 2 wickets. The final partnership of Joseph Graves and Ben Johnson made 26 runs with Gt Melton finishing on 286 for 3.As the sun shone on a stunning Melton Park, the under 9 bowlers set about the Swardeston batters. Keeping wicket for just the second time, Corey Rushton restricted the byes to just 4 and made some very impressive stops.Cassie Mawby making a welcome return to the team bowled with pace and economy. Max Wilson, Ben Johnson and Joseph Graves each took a wicket.  Two wickets fell to Henry Marsh, who is proving to be an excellent all rounder. Swardeston finished on 259 for 5.
