U9s Finish With a Win And An 8-Match Unbeaten Run

GREAT MELTON U9s beat TAS VALLEY U9s by 117 runs at Melton Park in the South Norfolk Community League

In their final fixture of the season the under 9s extended their winning run to 8 matches by beating H’sett and Tas Valley by 117 runs. Captain Corey Rushton chose to bat first. Ethan Ellis and Harrison Cunningham opened and scored 21 runs in their 4 overs. Sam McKay and Oliver Wormstone showed good defence as they also did not concede a wicket. James Cooper (12) and Louis Armstrong Brown (11) hit several fours and ran every available bye. The final pair of Corey and Jamie Granville continued to score freely with each making 12. Gt Melton finished on 197 without losing a wicket.

After refreshments Gt Melton took the field with renewed energy. Corey took two wickets and sometimes managed to spin the ball so much that it missed both the outside edge and the stumps.Harrison bowled with familiar accuracy taking two wickets. Ethan was also extremely accurate taking 1 wicket for 0 runs off 2 overs. Sam and Oliver, took a wicket each bowling with great concentration and control. The fielding was alert and put more pressure on the visitors. Ethan made a diving stop to prevent a boundary. Sam McKay, always full of energy stopped several scoring opportunities and combined well with Corey for one of the 2 run outs. The visitors finished on 125 for 9 a net score of 80.

This well contested match brought to an end the under 9s season. The progress made by the the squad of players who have represented the Club in the various competitive and friendly matches has been very evident. A tribute not just to the coaches but to the mums, dads and others who have allowed it to happen.
