U9s Extend Unbeaten Run to 7 Games

GREAT MELTON U9s beat ROCKLANDS U9s by 36 runs at Rocklands in the South Norfolk Community League

Fielding the youngest team selected this season, the under 9s extended their unbeaten run to 7 matches at Rocklands on Friday 7th August. The home team decided to bat first and were to face some very accurate bowling from all the Melton bowlers. The pitch did not allow the ball to bounce and Aiden Button was unlucky to have two wickets ruled out by the umpire's call of no ball.Corey Rushton managed to find some spin however and took 2 wickets. Sam Davey and Blade Earley bowled accurately and took a wicket each. Sam McKay who was typically energetic in the field, combined with keeper James Cooper for a well taken run out.Francis Wilson and Louie Burkett maintained the pressure on the batters and Rocklands finished on 144 for 5 an aggregate score of 119.

With no bounce in the pitch this relatively low score still presented a challenge to the batters. Sam D and Blade got the innings off to a positive start, each hitting well timed 4s and taking every available single. Great running between the wickets continued as James Cooper and Louie pushed the score along. Sam M and Aiden showed great concentration as they faced some testing bowling and managed not to lose a wicket. Top scorer was Corey with 13 not out who with Francis put on 19 in the final overs. Gt Melton finished with 175 for 4, aggregate score of 155 and a win by 36 runs.

This was an impressive display by the young team who represented the Club extremely well although the end of match handshakes need some work!
