U15s Through to Alliance Quarter-Final

Trophy holders, Great Melton U15s made it through to the Quarter-Final of the Norfolk Alliance Quarter-Final with a good 5-wicket victory over Old Buckenham at Melton Park. With the start delayed owing to the late arrival of players from each side following a school match, Old Bucks elected to bat. They began well with Nathan Muggeridge and Reuben Wright running quickly between the wickets and playing some excellent shots for four, particularly through the off side. Muggeridge eventually retired having reached 30 and Wright was caught behind by Nat Buxton off Ethan Rushton for 25 soon afterwards. Walker Everitt added 24 as the innings closed on 109-2. Whilst it was a challenging total, Melton bowled well and never allowed the Old Bucks batsmen to really dominate despite a few misfields and overthrows that added some extra runs to the total. Cassie Mawby was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-0-15-0 and Cassie also ran out Malachi Wright with a direct hit.

A solid start was needed and provided by Lohit Kannan and Flynn Crosthwaite who batted very intelligently, taking singles wherever possible and despatching anything short or over-pitched to the boundary. Both retired having scored 30 and, although Buxton was dismissed for 7 and Ethan Rushton for 3, Robert Mackintosh (13 not out) carried on where Lohit and Flynn had left off, steering Melton to victory. Corey Rushton hit the winning boundary with 2.2 overs still remaining.

Having finished runners-up to Swardeston in Group 1, the U15s now meet Norfolk ECB Cup winners Swaffham, away, in the Quarter-Final.
