Carter Brothers Shine as U13s Beat Swaffham
GREAT MELTON U13s beat SWAFFHAM U13s by 89 runs at Swaffham in the South Norfolk Community League
Great Melton U13s put their Alliance semi-final defeat behind them and continued their domination of the South Norfolk Community League with a convincing win at Swaffham. The match enabled Melton to give some of their ‘squad' players more of a chance to bat and bowl but they were still proved too strong for the home side who, nevertheless, stuck too their task well taking 5 Melton wickets as the visitors posted a total of 148 in their 16 overs. Skipper Fergus Hughes led the way with 43 before being caught trying to get to 50 in 10 overs or be ‘retired'. His opening partner, Matt Carter, played some good shots in his 21 and twin brother James also enjoyed himself, scoring 20 before being run out. Luke Richards struck 5 boundaries in his 25 and Kyle Weston hit 10 off the first two balls he faced in scoring an unbeaten 17.
In reply Swaffham were bowled out for 59 with one ball of the 16 overs left but Wardle impressed in scoring 24 while captain George Howling, batting at 7, looked good, hitting 4 boundaries in his 17. After a wayward first over, Zak Ashdown (3-0-18-0) improved a lot and got the occasional ball to turn sharply but the wickets went to Weston (2-0-2-2), James Carter (2-1-6-2), Craig Wilson (2-1-9-1), Richards (2-1-1-1) and Hughes (1.5-0-5-1). Two catches by Walton and a diving effort from wicketkeeper Matt Carter completed a good evening for Melton.
