GREAT MELTON U13s beat SWAFFHAM U13s by 161 runs at Great Melton in the Alan Bridgewater Cup
The Under 13’s showed good teamwork – and took 14 wickets! – to overturn Swaffham by 161 runs in the Alan Bridgewater competition. Melton won the toss and put the visitors into bat, but it looked the wrong decision after the Swaffham openers attacked, getting 28 of the first 2 overs. Melton’s bowlers then began to click and Alex Rennie (2-0-2-2) and Rob Smith (2-0-14-2) saw the openers out with the addition of 3 wickets. Melton’s accurate bowling and excellent fielding paid off and the wickets began to tumble. Craig Attwell was the pick of the bowlers with (3-1-5-4) as Swaffham ended on 159 (41 below the starting total). Melton, set a target by manager Duncan Greenslade to not lose a wicket throughout the innings, came close, only losing 1. Even though the Melton boys’ didn’t need any runs to win – they still went out in a positive manner and it showed in their batting performances. All players contributed with either the batt or the ball to help Melton to an outstanding victory.
