U13s Make it 7 Wins Out of 7 in South Norfolk League

GREAT MELTON U13s beat MUNDFORD U13s by 6 wickets at  Mundford in the South Norfolk Community League

James Bridges scored 39 not out and Sam Johnson 17 as Great Melton U13s chased down Mundford's 94-5 in 10.4 overs to make it 7 wins from 7 matches in the South Norfolk Community League.  With many of the the squad unavailable, manager Clive Gristwood included 3 U11s, Charlie Green, Nat Buxton and Ben Johnson, plus a second Charlie Green making his debut.  Things did not start well for Melton with James Bridges struggling to find his line which meant he conceded 13 runs – all extras – off his first 2 overs.  In fact Mundford's first 18 runs were all extras!  Skipper Oli Leinster (2-0-18-2) then brought himself on to claim both openers, bowling Bebee and trapping Reece lbw for 20. Ben Johnson and the younger Charlie Green bot bowled excellent spells, only conceding 8 runs from their 3 overs while the older Charlie Green took his first wicket and produced an accurate throw to run out Harry Wakefield.  Max Giles (14) and Kyle Norman (14 not out) produced some lusty blows late in the innings to take the Mundford score to 94.

Melton lost Green (the younger), caught behind in the third over but Bridges was then joined by Johnson who survived an an early ‘chance' and grew in confidence.  Johnson's awareness and good running plus Bridges power proved a match-winning combination and, by the time Bridges retired having scored 39, the pair had added 75 in less than 8 overs and Melton had nearly reached their target.  Skipper Leinster strode out to hit the winning four through cover point as Melton won with 5.2 overs to spare.
