U13s Go Top of the Table

Great Melton U13’s Boys beat Great Ellingham U13’s by 7 wickets at Melton Park in the South Norfolk Community League

The U13 boy’s produced their best batting performance of the season so far with a win against Great Ellingham.

Great Ellingham won the toss and put Melton into bat. With Thomas Moye (27) & Saxon Earley (27) opening the batting for Melton it started very positively when Thomas hit the first ball for a four. Over the next 7 overs both Thomas & Saxon managed to put on 59 runs with a lot of good worked singles and hitting the poor balls for fours. Thomas was the first to fall, getting a leading edge which was caught & bowled by C.Freston. In came Fergus Hughes at number three and with only 8 more runs added Saxon was bowled by G.Harding. Pat Walton (12 Not Out) was next in and played a supporting role to Fergus who hit 69 of which included 2 sixes. Great Melton finished on 155-2 which at present is the highest score in the U13’s league.

Great Ellingham’s opening pair of H.Spelman (22) & R.George (14) put on 44 before H.Spelman was bowled by Luke Richards in the 9th over. In the same over both R.George was run out by Luke and H.Lake (0) was also run out by Fergus. C.Freston (12) put on a few runs but not before M.Daly (0) was bowled by Lewis Thurston in a wicket maiden. Then G.Peasgood (5) was stumped by Saxon off the bowling of Thomas. Fergus then got the wicket of C.Freston who was caught by Pat and the final wicket of G.Harding (10) was bowled by Pat in the 15th over.

This was a very good performance by the boys which included an excellent 69 not out for Fergus, wicket maiden for Lewis and very good debut for the U13 boys for Saxon behind the stumps.
