U13s Edge to Victory in Close Game

GREAT MELTON U13s beat HORSFORD U13s by 7 runs at Melton Park in the South Norfolk Community League

This was a close game played between 2 evenly matched teams on a surprisingly cold evening at Melton Park. Horsford won the toss and elected to field. Corey Rushton and Joseph Graves opened the batting for Melton but lost the early wicket of Graves (1), caught W.Johnson bowled G.Eggett. A partnership then formed between Rushton (32*) and Ben Johnson (32*) before both retired. The next wicket of Ben Gaskin (2) fell at 116 – bowled by Oliver Durrant and he took another shortly after, bowling Harrison Cunningham (11).  Alfie Sutton (2*) and Jack Ballam (1*) took the score to 119/3 at the end of 16 overs with Durrant returning figures of 2-0-8-2 and George Eggett 2-0-16-1

Horsford opened their batting with P.De Lange and G.Jackson and another early wicket fell – P.De Lange (3) trapped LBW by Cunningham. Ethan Metcalf came in and needed just 19 balls to score 32* and retire. The game was always looking close and the next wicket of Eggett (13) was the result of an excellent run out with a direct hit thrown in from the boundary by Graves. With the score at 85/2 the play-cricket scoring app was predicting a drawn result but tight bowling from Cunningham and Johnson and 2 wickets for Joseph Graves meant that the visitors were not quite able to cross the line and finished 7 runs short with W.Johnson (12*) and Durrant (1*) still at the crease when the match finished. Graves finished with 3-1-7-2 and Cunningham 3-1-4-1.
