U13s Beat Vauxhall Mallards to Reach E.C.B. Semi-Final

Great Melton U13s beat Vauxhall Mallards U13s by 32 runs at Melton Park in the E.C.B. Cup Quarter-Final

Melton U13s moved confidently into the Norfolk semi-final of the E.C.B. Cup with a good all-round team performance that was just too strong for visitors, Vauxhall Mallards.  Joe Greenslade (34) and Luke Marchant (31) led the way with the bat, hitting some fine shots before having to retire on reaching 30. Rob Smith (11) and Alex Rennie (15) also batted well as Melton reached 128-6 off their 20 overs, despite an impressive spell of 4-1-14-4 from Mallards skipper, James Robb.

Melton then bowled accurately and fielded to a high standard and, although Robb retired on 30, the other visiting batsmen found boundaries hard to come by and soon slipped well-below the scoring rate.  Connor White looked dangerous for a while until he was brilliantly caught by Marcus Mawby at fine leg for 14 and, although Morse, finished unbeaten on 13, the visitors' final total of 96-6 was 32 runs short of Melton's.  Skipper Joe Greenslade used 9 bowlers but Luke Marchant (3-0-13-2), Rob Smith (3-0-6-0), Ben Carding (3-0-5-0), Alex Rennie (3-0-16-1) and Matt Rennie (3-0-16-1) were the pick of the bunch.  Aimee Palmer was particularly impressive in the field.
