U13s Beat Swardeston to Take Top Spot

The U13 boys were on good form as they beat Swardeston to make it 5 wins out of 5 in the Alan Bridgewater Cup to finish top of group 1.

Melton skipper, Corey Rushton, won the toss and elected to field. The boys bowled and fielded well against a strong batting attack. Swardeston's openers got them off to a strong start before Dylan Herathge was caught behind by Blade Earley for 14 off Odin Thomas. Blade took 2 further catches – Lawrence Williams (10) off Ben Gaskin and Sushant Singh (1) off Corey to make it a very successful debut for the U13 team. A run out for Flynn Crosthwaite and the pivotal wicket of Peter Stone (19), bowled by Will Bailey in the 13th over plus some tight bowling by Daniel Graves left Swardeston 91-6 at the end of their 16 overs.

In response, Melton openers James Cooper and Flynn Crosthwaite batted well – punishing the bad balls in the early overs to give the team a good platform from which to build. Two wickets in successive balls (Flynn bowled by Jack for 20 and James run out by Sushant for 12) brought, first Corey, and then Ben to the crease. The pair batted maturely, pushing the singles and running well between the wickets, to see Melton across the line in the 15th over.  Corey finished unbeaten on 24 and Ben on 14.

Well played all. The Quarter finals are to be played at home in the week beginning 7th July.
