U11s SNCL Campaign off to a Winning Start
GREAT MELTON U11s beat GREAT ELLINGHAM U11s by 7 wickets at Melton Park in the South Norfolk Community League
Having got their Terry Moore Trophy campaign under way with a win, the U11s followed up with an even more convincing victory in the South Norfolk Community League. Only two of the team in action against Bradenham were on duty against Ellingham as manager Clive Gristwood rang the changes but, after restricting the visitors to 71-4 from 16 overs, Captain Pat Walton (35 not out) and Mark Atfield (7 not out) knocked off the runs in 12.5 overs without losing a wicket.
Melton’s side included a number of Under 10s and, perhaps unsurprisingly, there were a large number of wides and no-balls – 50 – in Ellingham’s total. Matt top-scored with 13 but, generally, Melton’s inexperienced attack returned reasonable figures. Jack Gorman (3-0-20-1), Sam Harvey (2-0-8-1), Kai Wilkinson-Loines (2-0-6-1) and Mark Attfield (3-0-17-1) picked up the wickets but Michael Baker (2-0-3-0) proved the most economical bowler.
Skipper Walton marshalled his troops well and Josh Wright produced a promising wicket-keeping display.
