U11s Lose to Tas but it’s fun in the sun.

Great Melton U11s lost to Hethersett & Tas Valley U11s by 23 runs at Melton Park

Although this was officially a SN Covid19 League game under normal rules, because of the relative inexperience of both sides, it was played as a ‘pairs' match (hence the fact that the scoresheet on ‘Play-Cricket' is a modified version to comply with competition rules). Tas won the toss and elected to field, taking 5 Melton wickets to restrict home side to 277-5, a net score of 252. Captain Will Moulton top-scored for Great Melton with 15 but Leon Royal, Henry Burke, and Alex Hyong all survived with their wickets intact. Will Joyner, guesting for Tas who were one short, took 2-13 and Dylan 2-7.

Will (6) seemed to enjoy the challenge of playing against his teammates as he and Grace Spratt (11) then gave the visitors' innings a great start adding 28 before, the final ball of the 4th over, a straight ball by Jake Carter kept low and bowled Grace. Sev hit 3 excellent fours in an innings of 15 and Dylan scored 7, including the shot of the match, a glance off his legs for 4 as Tas quickly overhauled Melton's score. However, Melton kept plugging away and were rewarded with 3 wickets, including two for Will (2-15) and an excellent ‘direct hit' run-out by Alex, in the final 4 overs. In the end Tas were clear winners finishing on 294-4 (274 net) but there was plenty of enthusiasm from the Melton lads who were happy to sub on and off to allow ‘reserve', Alex, to play a full part in the game. Joe Hydes kept wicket for half the Hethersett innings and showed a lot of potential with some excellent leg-side stops.

A big thank-you to Clive Gristwood for assisting and scoring and to Sara Worley and Hethersett & Tas Valley who played the game in an excellent spirit. On a very warm, sunny evening everyone seemed to enjoy the game with the result unimportant.
