U11s’ First SNCL Win

Great Melton U11s beat Mattishall U11s by 7 Wickets at Melton Park

Great Melton, skippered by Charlie Green, lost the toss and Mattishall decided to bat first.

Dilshan Rai opened the bowling for Melton & bowled three dots balls before taking a wicket on the fourth ball, Ethan Rushton caught J. Barns at Gully, an excellent catch. In the following over, after three dot balls bowled by Charlie Green, T. Stoltz was runout by Holly Marchant /Charlie Green. The 3rd wicket fell in the sixth over as G.Hughs (4) was bowled by Ethan Rushton.

Wickets continued to fall: Cameron Graveling caught and bowled D.Barton; Charlie Green caught M.Braybrook (2) off Holly Marchant & J.Broughton was run out by Holly Marchant in the 12th over.

Ben Fletcher and Ryan Twiddy both bowled accurately, and were working hard in the field while Nat Buxton was very active behind the stumps. Great Melton restricted Mattishall to 36-6 in 12 overs.  As Mattishall's 8th player had not arrived by then, at the Mattishall Manager's request, Melton's supersub, Corey Rushton, practising in the nets in his whites, was called on to bat for Mattishall. Corey, joined P.Walker (2 n.o) to score 14 n.o, including two boundaries and take the final score to 53-6.

Great Melton's batting was opened by Charlie Green and Holly Marchant. In the initial overs, both rotated strike with ease and scored a number of 1s and 2s. Holly scored a boundary and Charlie scored four boundaries in their partnership. Needing only 7 to win and with the rain was on the way, David Bunn decided to retire both Holly (11) and Charlie (25) after the 8th over so Cameron Green and Nat Buxton walked in to bat. Corey Rushton bowled the 9th over & Cameron scored two boundaries to finish the chase. Great Melton final score was 55-0.

It was a comprehensive first win for Great Melton U11s. All 16 players played excellent cricket. Thanks to Marcus Mawby for scoring and encouraging players throughout.
