Teamwork The Key For Melton C

GREAT MELTON C (24 points) beat NEW BUCKENHAM (7 points) by 48 runs at New Buckenham in the Lucas & Fettes Norfolk League Division 5

A good all round team performance enabled Great Melton C to gain their fourth victory of the campaign at New Buckenham.  Resilience with the bat in overcoming the loss of Steve Clarke to the first ball of the match was followed by an efficient bowling display that saw the wickets shared around as Buckenham fell well short of Melton's 145 all out.  Kevin Frazer scored 25 after the loss of Clarke and Phil Lachowycz (8) but it was a partnership of 52 between Paul Stearman and Steve Phoenix that gave the Melton innings the impetus it needed.  The Chairman hung around while Stearman went for the big shots and, on a difficult, damp wicket the pair saw Melton to three figures before Stearman was bowled for 45.  Phoenix (33) then played a few shots himself as the ‘tail' provided good support before the returning Halfacre ended his 26-over stay at the crease.  Stuart Wilson was left unbeaten on 9 – his highest score – as the Melton innings ended after 40 overs, the impressive Halfacre taking 3-10 in 6.4 overs.

Tom Smith quickly accounted for R.Halfacre (1) and Corey Connelly (2) in a superb opening spell of 7 overs for 6 runs and, although Dalton (8) hung around and Taylor (13) and Kieron Connelly (15) went for some big shots, wickets fell with regularity. Smith eventually finished with figures of 7.2-3-7-3, there were 2 wickets each for Joe Bickel (2-28), Peter Frazer (2-15) and Paul Stearman (2-8) and one from Leo DeSalis (1-21).  Good catches from Kevin Frazer (2), Phoenix (2) and Lachowycz and 2 stumpings from Clarke made it an excellent day for Melton who picked up 24 points as New Buckenham were dismissed for 97.
