Super U11s Surprise Swardeston

Great Melton U11s beat Swardeston U11s by 32 runs at Melton Park in the Terry Moore Trophy

The U11s produced their best performance of  what has already been an outstanding season to upset a strong Swardeston side in the Terry Moore competition.  Invited to bat first, Beth Harmer set the tone by taking 10, including 3 superb fours off Swardeston skipper, Elliott Fox's first over. Beth (22) and the equally impressive Charlie Green (10) ensured Melton  got off the a flying start  adding 38 for the loss of one wicket, Beth caught down the leg side.  Lohit Kannan (10) and Mark Attfield (1) both suffered one dismissal but that was to be Swardeston's final success as Sam Johnson (12) played some fine shots  in a partnership of  27 with Jack Gorman (5).  That left Saxon Earley (13) and Olly Leister (8) to push Melton's score to 314-3, a useful net score of 296.

Zak Taylor gave Swardeston a good start to their reply with 5 fours in his 25 but Green produced a great delivery to  castle his middle stump.  Ben Blowers (11) and Rio Iccarano (6) took the visitors to 50 without further loss but Attfield and Gorman kept things tight before Gorman bowled Garside (0) and Leinster bowled Ezra Khan (8) leaving last pair Fox and Greasley needing 43 off the final 4 overs.  They never looked likely to get them as Melton's final 4 bowlers, Leinster, Green, Harmer and Kannan  were  inspired.  Beth took a superb catch in the deep to dismiss Fox (11) and Earley snaffled Greasely (5) as Melton, helped by some tremendous fielding, tightened their grip.  In the end Swardeston finished well short on 294-5, a net score of 264 to give Melton  a 32-run victory with just 22 runs coming off the final 4 overs.

it was an outstanding team performance from Melton.  Any win over Swardeston is a good win and it means that Melton U11s have a great chance of winning Group 1 and reaching the Terry Moore quarter final.
