Second Win For Soaked U9s

GREAT MELTON U9s beat HETHERSETT & TAS VALLEY U9s by 12 runs at Flordon in the South Norfolk Community League

In atrocious weather conditions the under 9s beat Hethersett and Tas Valley by 12 runs. This was the first  competitive match for Matthew Cooke and Ethan Ellis. Batting first the Great Melton batters struggled with the conditions. James Cooper again showed his powerful stroke play in hitting 4 not out. Dilshan Rai and Matthew Cooke were vary alert and ran 8 byes.  The final partnership of  Corey Rushton and Ben Johnson added 22 to the score. Great Melton closed on 260 for 5. The rain did not let up and by now all the players, parents and  the club chairman were soaked.  The home team got off to a good start,  scoring 227 without loss.  As the rain came down even harder a win – or any sort of result – did not seem likely until Ethan Ellis made the break through with Alice  Greenslade and Corey Rushton  each taking a wicket. Captain Ben Johnson took 3 wickets and with a superb run out in which he threw down the wicket from 40 metres, turned the outcome of the match. Max Howard bowled with familiar accuracy. The home team were restricted to 258 for 7 leaving Great Melton under 9s to record their second win of the season.
