These will be at the UEA Sportspark on Monday evenings starting on Monday 28th February and running until Monday 11th April from 6.00-8.00 p.m. We have a longer slot than last year (2 hours) and, while we are aware that not everyone can make it as early as 6.00, please come later if you can so we get as many attending as possible. It is costing us over £80 for the 2-hour hire of the Sportspark so we’re hoping for a good attendance. Because of the cost we’ll have to charge everyone £3 to help cover it but that’s still quite cheap for 2 hours. There’s also a 60p admission fee which the Sportspark charge. Hopefully the fees won’t put people off as it is a good facility and there aren’t many other options. The nets are open to all senior players, juniors who play in senior teams plus any other over 13s who aspire to play senior (C Team) cricket.
After the indoor sessions have finished, senior practice/coaching will again be on Tuesday evenings at Melton Park from 6.30 onwards. This will be for all seniors plus juniors from Year 9 (U14) upwards. ‘Coaching’ officially starts on Tuesday 26th April but we might have some informal nets before then if the weather permits. An innovation this year is that our new Coaching Coordinator, Simon Carding, has organised a series of specialist coaching clinics with the County’s top coaches. This is a marvellous opportunity for any player, senior or junior, to receive some expert coaching. We hope the seniors and better juniors will want to take advantage of these sessions. Seniors can opt to attend as can older juniors but, for younger juniors, it will be at the invitation of Simon or me. There will probably be a very small extra charge for these sessions as Level 3 and 4 coaches are quite expensive. The sessions are as follows:
- May 3rd Fielding and Specialist Positions (Aaron Watson)
- May 10th Strength & Conditioning 1 (Chris Dalton)
- May 17th Spin Bowling (Chris Brown)
- May 31st Batting against Spin (Chris Brown)
- June 21st Strength & Conditioning 2 (Chris Dalton)
- June 28th Seam Bowling (Aaron Watson)
- July 12th Wicketkeeping/Batting against Pace (Micky Piggott)
- July 19th Coaches Update (Micky Piggott)
New Pitch for B & C Teams
You will probably all have heard about the UEA’s decision not to allow any community use at Colney Lane next season. That decision has now been confirmed but, luckily, we have managed to acquire the use of the Town Close Sports Ground on Newmarket Road. The Bs and Cs will play their matches there on alternate weeks. There’s a nice thatched pavilion, cars can be parked on the ground and Mike and Grenners have given the wicket the thumbs up. We hope it plays as well as it looks!
The Alliance and Sunday fixtures have been published but we’re still waiting for the Norfolk League ones. They’ve been delayed by the UEA problem. I am in the process of arranging junior fixtures – there are over 50. Hopefully a fixture card will be available by early April.
