Opening Partnership of 74 as Under 11s Top South Norfolk League

Great Melton U11s beat Mulbarton U11s by 15 runs at Orchard Park in the South Norfolk Community League

Melton's all-conquering Under 11s held on to top spot in the South Norfolk Community League with a 15-run victory over a sporting Mulbarton side.  An unbroken opening partnership of 74 between Fergus Hughes and Patrick Walton laid the foundation for victory with both boys combining some well-timed drives and pulls with some excellent running between the wickets.  Manager Paul Stearman retired both openers after 11 overs with Hughes on 34 and Walton on 19. Unfortunately Ben Bailey was then run out without facing a ball but that was Mulbarton's only success as Aimee Palmer (8 not out) and Lewis Thurston (4 not out) saw Melton to 91-1 from their 16 overs.

Mulbarton's first three batsmen all looked dangerous but Craig Wilson bowled Osborne (4) with his first ball, Connor Jermyn bowled D.Phillips for 9 then Ben Bailey produced a good piece of fielding to run out Polack for a good 18. Jermyn (2-0-10-2) took a second wicket thanks to a good castch by Hughes and Bailey bowled his namesake for 3. Palmer then bowled Garson to leave Mulbarton 56-6.  The last pair, Foster (4 not out) and Webster (1 not out) resisted stubbornly, though, and helped by ‘extras' Mulbarton reached 76-6 after 16 overs.  It wasn't Melton's best fielding performance with several missed run-outs but there was some good bowling, particularly from Connor Jermyn,  Aimee Palmer (2-0-3-1), Fergus Hughes (3-0-9-0), Lewis Thurston(1-0-2-0) and Patrick Walton (2-0-8-0).  Craig Wilson (3-0-18-1) was a little more expensive than usual and Ben Bailey bowled a mixture excellent balls, including the one that got the wicket, and wides that contributed 15 to his figures of 3-0-20-1.

The Unders 11s have now won 14 of their 16 matches this season.
