Olly and Chris Star For Cs in 9-Wicket Win

GREAT MELTON C (23 points) beat ROCKLANDS A (3 points) by 9 wickets at Rocklands in the Lucas & Fettes Norfolk League Division 5

Olly Phoenix, making his first appearance for nearly two years and Chris Brook on his Melton debut, shared the man-of the match honours as Melton C made light of the availability problems that affected team selection to record a thumping 9-wicket win over Rocklands.  As well as Brook, Melton's women and girls coach, Melton also had 13-year-olds Rob Smith and Craig Attewell making their debuts while Josh Mellor was playing his 1st game of the season.  Freddie Burgess, Clive Gristwood and Dave Bickel had a handful of appearances between them as Melton did well to put out a fourth team on a day when so many regulars were not available.  Rocklands, it seemed, were in a similar position.  It was Brook, though, who starred, his left-arm spin bringing him figures of 10-1-21-5 as Rocklands were restricted to 144-9 having been asked to bat first.  Pulsford (15), Hinchcliffe (11), Howard (22) and Kruger (25) all seemed to have played themselves in then got out as Stuart Wilson  and Freddie Burgess kept things tight.  Wilson came back for a second spell at the end finishing with excellent figures of 11-3-19-3 while Rob Smith (5-1-17-0), Josh Mellor (7-0-36-0) and leg spinner Craig Attewell (5-0-15-1) looked comfortable in senior cricket.  There was a good catch from Smith and two excellent stumpings from Joey Greenslade as Melton restricted the home side to a gettable total.

So it was to prove as Phoenix and Burgess set about the Rocklands bowlers, Burgess hitting a quick-fire 40 before rushing off to a dinner appointment!  Greenslade joined Phoenix and the score fairly rattled along. Olly Phoenix, now living in London and not having picked up a bat for nearly 2 years, looked as if he'd never been awa,y driving and pulling to great effect.  Incredibly it took Melton only 15.5 overs to reach their victory target with Phoenix unbeaten on 81, having hit 14 fours and a six.  Young Greenslade finished 14 not out.
