Nine Wickets for the Yarhams as Bs Dismissed For 65

GREAT MELTON B (5 points) lost to OVERSTRAND (25 points) by 134 runs at Town Close in the Norfolk League Division 4SW

Overstrand’s Billy and Dave Yarham picked up 9 wickets between them as Melton B were dismissed for just 65 to lose by 134 runs in a game that promised so much.  Having kept a strong Overstrand batting line-up to under 200 skipper Tony Alborough was confident of chasing down the runs but things went steadily downhill after Melton Billy Yarham swept away Melton’s top order.  Connor Stearman (8), Aslam Mohammed (0), Steve Clarke (6) and Matt Rushton (0) were dismissed in the space of 2 overs to leave Melton’s reply in tatters at 17-4. Chris McKay (10), Steve Phoenix (14) and James Robb (11) provided only limited resistance as the off-spin of David Yarham replaced the seam of Billy.  Dave returned figures of 7.5-2-12-5 while Billy, also bowling from the Nottcuts end, took 4-13 from 7, as Melton were bowled out in the 30th over.

Earlier Alborough had won the toss and invited the visitors to bat and it looked, for a time, as if Melton would be chasing a much bigger score than 200.  Tim Porter and Billy Yarham raced to 71 off the first 15 overs before Yarham was trapped lbw by Robb for 18.  The hard-hitting Porter brought up his fifty before he became the second Robb victim but, with Kyle Mason having conceded just 14 in his first 7-over spell, Robb, Hadi Kashif and Matt Rushton managed to slow the scoring rate.  Dave Yarham hit 2 sixes in his 41 and there were good contributions from Reedman (20) and Shreeve (23) but, with Mason (10-2-21-2) and Robb (9-3-31-3) bowling particularly well and Mohammed taking 1-5 in his final 2 overs, Melton denied the visitors a 5th batting point as they ended on 199-8.

It looked like being a tight match but the Yarhams simply proved too good for Melton on a day when their strong-looking batting line-up did ‘a Sri Lanka’ and simply fell apart!
