Narrow Win for U9s

GREAT MELTON U9s beat BROOKE U9s by 3 runs at Melton Park in the South Norfolk Community League.

An excellent team performance by the Gt Melton under 9s saw them beat Brooke by just 3 runs on Monday. With Melton Park bathed in hot evening sunshine, captain Sam McKay won the toss and decided to field first. His decision was soon rewarded when Jack Rowley and keeper Harry Cheal combined with a run out of the highest quality. This set the tone for an energetic fielding performance. Noah Moore and James Alcock were typically lively, backing up when needed and stopping several runs. Facing into the sun, Dylan Crawley stopped two certain fours from one of the free hitting Brooke batters.  Jack, Noah and James each took wickets with Brooke closing on 153 for 5 (128).

With a modest score to beat the Gt Melton batters knew that careful run scoring and the loss of just a few wickets would secure the win. This is exactly how the first 12 overs went, with Dylan, Jack, Noah, Thomas Small and Finley Sutton all picking off the runs and not losing any wickets. Sam top scored with 10 not out. Moving into the final 4 overs, victory seemed inevitable. However, 3 wickets fell and suddenly the pressure was back on Gt Melton. Another wicket off the last 3 balls would see a win for the visitors However, with determined spirit and endeavour Harry and James saw the team through to 146 for 3 (131), in what was an entertaining and well contested match by both clubs.

Special mention and well done to George Alcock. Brooke had only 7 players and George fielded for them having come along to support the Gt Melton team which was: Sam McKay, Harry Cheal, Noah Moore, Finley Sutton, Jack Rowley, James Alcock, Thomas Small, Dylan Crawley
