An unbeaten 55 for Jon Moxon and a 4fer for Gary Coulson helped give the B's a vital win against Sprowston B in their bid to retain NCL Division Two status.

Tim Hales lost the toss and Melton were asked to bat on a damp TCH surface.

With usual opener Neal Clarke being promoted to the A Team following good form, skipper Hales took on the duty to open the innings with Chris Elliott. Hales looked to punish anything short or wide on his way to 26 and after being given two lives in consecutive balls, was bowled by Stock in the 18th over. Connor Stearman (0) followed a few balls later to an exact replica to Hales' dismissal. Elliott and Moxon steadied the ship and played well against the tight Sprowston attack. Elliott (19) fell in the 28th over after being trapped in front and Nick Mackenzie (0) chipped to mid-wicket to leave the middle order with some work left to do. Eusha Fawad played a vital innings adding a quick 21 which in he and Moxon punished the bad ball, both batsmen firing some fine boundaries. When Eusha nicked off behind this brought some brilliant single running with Nav Sharma (11) Jake Mardell (8) and Craig Woolrich (2no). Moxon finished the innings not out on 55 and Melton 158 for 8.

Melton would have to bowl well to have any chance of winning and they didn't disappoint. Gary Coulson opened and bowled his usual fine lines and lengths. Nick Mackenzie's first three overs went for 18 as Sprowston's openers opened up but Coulson made the breakthrough in the 18th over. Mackenzie had found his rythmn by now and his final nine overs only went for a mere eight runs. Coulson applied all of his trickery and this combinated in him picking up four wickets in his 12 over opening spell. Craig Woolrich replaced Coulson and he immediately picked up where Gazza had left off – a wicket maiden followed by two further maidens had put Melton in the driving seat. James Robb came on to partner Woolrich to bowl in tandem and the runs simply dried up for Sprowston as Woolrich and Robb took further wickets.

Melton had victory confirmed in the 40th over as Sharma bowled the final batsman; the first time this season the B team have bowled out their opposition. James Robb held three catches including a stunning one handed caught and bowled. Moxon caught well on the boundary and Mardell took a good close catch and an important run out.

A top display from the B team in which they hope to take momentum into next weeks crucial game against Hardingham.
