Melton B’s Suffer Friendly Reverse

Eaton CC 134-1 (29.2 overs) beat Great Melton B team 133 a.o. (43.2 overs) by 9 wickets at CNS Playing field

Great Melton raised little more than a whimper as they suffered a heavy defeat in the traditional opening friendly against Eaton at CNS on Saturday.

With only Phil Bugg (47) and Duncan Greenslade (26*) making any significant contribution, the below par score of 133 was always going to be tough to defend, especially with 5 batsmen mustering a mere 5 runs off 20 balls between them.

Phil took a stunning catch to remove Gary Sturgess for 30 off Kevin Ellis’ bowling, but Sam Butcher (62*) and Rob Breeze (26*) saw the hosts home in just 29.2overs.

Caitlin Ellis bowled extremely well, generating lots of swing and movement, whilst Ryan Hayward and Matt Henderson managed probing lines without ever looking threatening in their opening burst.
