Ladies Lose at Winterton

The ladies team lost by 32 runs against Winterton CC.

We had 3 non-cricket mums and girlfriend in Caroline Mawby, Trish Ellse and Jordan Gray playing the match to give Melton 10 players, while 7 were regular ladies, against an 11-woman squad from Winterton.

The pick of the bowlers were Rachael, Alice Greenslade and Cassie, all giving 14 runs off 4 overs. The only wicket came from a run out by Rachael Hustler and Megan Ellse, who worked extremely hard as wicketkeeper.

The field was full of laughter as Winterton seemed to work out that Caroline Mawby was the worst of our fielders after running away from a ball in the first few overs 😉 Trish Ellse took ‘putting your body on the line’ to a new level when she saved many boundaries by diving onto the ball, while Jordan Gray had a champagne moment when – having never touched a cricket ball before – fielded a powerful shot with just her left hand, afterwards looking more shocked than any of us !!!! Hannah Skitterall held the field well and worked the hardest to stop extra runs being scored.

With the bat, having lost two early wickets, opener Alice Brand stuck in the crease with a healthy 17* in her First ever Ladies match, showing the cricketer she is sure to become. Alice Greenslade went long with a fast 11, while Tiffany Lambert stepped on the strip with 2 overs to go and was showing her little daughter Grace how well Mum could hit the ball – while making Rachael run for her!

An unfortunate loss but a really fun match.
