Ladies End Season with a Win
GREAT MELTON WOMEN (10 points) beat HETHERSETT & TAS VALLEY WOMEN (2 points) by 39 runs at Melton Park in the NCB Shell Norfolk Cricket League
Great Melton's Ladies ended their season with a tie against Brooke and a 39-run win over Hethersett & Tas Valley to secure at least a third place finish in the Shell Women's League behind Swardeston and Winterton. It completes a very good season for Melton's young side.
Batting first Melton scored 129-5 with Hannah Brook scoring 23, Caitlin Ellis retiring having hit an impressive 31 and Rachael Hustler unbeaten on 18. The total was helped by 25 wides (counting as 2 runs) bowled by the Tas girls but Florence Wilkinson and Megan Consalves were unerringly accurate. Megan took 2-15 from four excellent overs and Florence 3-9 from her four.
Laura McLory (8) and Consalves (9) then gave Tas a good start with a partnership of 26 but a catch by Caitlin Ellis of the bowling of Rebecca Greenslade provided the breakthrough and it was soon 29-3 as Rachael Hustler (3-0-16-2) removed Consalves and Wilkinson. Sara Worley batted well to score 30 before retiring but wickets kept falling at the other end with Caitlin's figures of 4-1-5-1 the stand-out bowling performance to go with her impressive batting. Alice Greenslade (2-0-13-2) also claimed two victims in the gathering gloom as Tas finished on 90-7.
Well done the girls and a big thank-you to Ladies' Coach, George Bunn and his assistant Jonathan Ellse, for the many hours they have spent coaching and organising the team.
