Joseph Top Man as U11s Beat Tas

GREAT MELTON U11s beat HETHERSETT & TAS VALLEY U11s by 66 runs at Melton Park in the Terry Moore Competition

A good all-round performance saw Melton U11s beat Tas Valley by a comfortable margin of 66 runs in the Terry Moore competition.  Having been invited to bat Joseph Graves (14 not out) and Ben Johnson (9 not out) set the tone with some excellent running and delightful shots in their opening partnership of 24.  Harrison Cunningham (7*), Henry Marsh (2), Mohit Badimela (5*) and Ben Gaskin (10*) maintained the momentum in the middle overs and last pair, Corey Rushton (13) and Jamie Granville (12*), took the score from 274-1 to 304-2 with a partnership of 30, Corey's first two scoring shots being two excellent cover drives.  The Tas bowlers stuck to their task well for no reward with both Melton wickets being direct-hit run outs.

The final total (with deductions) of 292 was a good one and Ben Johnson (2-0-8-1) ensured it was likely to be a winning one, bowling the Tas opener in the 2nd over, then producing a run out and a catch as the visitors struggled to 243-3 with only 5 overs left.  Two wickets in successive balls to give him figures of 3-0-14-3, clinched the man-of-the-match title for Graves and there was a wicket for Marsh (2-0-9-1) as Tas finished on 268-7, a net total of 226.

This followed a good day at the Gresham's Tournament on Sunday where the U11s lost to the eventual winners Taverham Hall – a team containing Melton players Joseph Graves & Jamie Granville – and runners-up Greshams, tied with Horsford and beat Bradfield and Acle to finish 3rd.  Thanks to James Robb and David Bunn for supervising and umpiring throughout the day, and to Maxine Rushton for scoring.
