Jim Rice

Left-hand batsman; Left arm spin bowler

Jim joined Great Melton from Horsford with whom he won the Biss Trophy and reached the final of the Carter Cup, a feat he also achieved with North Runcton. After representing Norfolk up to U19s, he played his first senior cricket for Downham Town, taking in North Runcton, City of Ely in the Cambridge Premier League, Falmouth in the Cornish Premier League, Downham again, Lincoln Lindum in the Lincolnshire ECB Premier before finally arriving at Horsford. His work at Anglia T.V. brought him to Melton Park in 2009 when the club hosted a charity game between Anglia and Sky. Impressed with the facilities and due to be married in the Summer of 2010, Jim decided to step down a level or two and turn out for us. What a start he had, taking 4-37 with his left-arm spin and scoring 39 on his debut against Aldborough.  Jim scored his first 50 and took some valuable wickets to help the First Team gain promotion to Division 2 in 2011 but work and family commitments have meant that he has only been available for the odd midweek game in recent seasons.  However, now son Billy is attending junior coaching & playing for the U9s, we’re hoping Jim’s talents will be on display a little more often.
