It’s Bunntastic as George Leads Melton to Carter Cup Win

Melton Phoenix U17s beat Hales Herd U17s by 65 runs at Hales Green in the Bob Carter Junior Cup

George Bunn showed that anything dad could do on Saturday, he could do on Sunday as he led Melton Phoenix to victory over Hales Herd in the Junior Carter Cup, scoring 48 runs and taking 3 wickets in the process.  The Melton skipper won the toss and decided to bat on the relatively new ground at Hales Green and Melton's opening batsmen made a stand of 58 runs before George King was bowled for 18. Fellow opener Ed Allen followed for 23, with the score standing at 73-2. Chris Greenslade (21) and Bunn (48 not out) took the score to 110 before Greenslade was caught but there were useful contributions from Nick Gristwood (5), George Ducker (12) and Michael Farmer (8 Not Out) who supported their skipper well. The Melton innings closed on 190-6 from their allocated 36 overs. G Montagu was the pick of the Hales bowlers with 3-21 runs in his 6 overs.

After losing 2 early wickets Hales made a steady reply and the match looked evenly poised with Hales standing at 120-5, needing just under 6 runs an over in their last 12 overs to overtake the Melton score. G Montagu (22) and a good knock of 35 from L Jones had laid a solid foundation before Jones was expertly stumped by Melton wicket keeper George Ducker off the bowling of Simon Brett (3-18). The game turned in the 25th over when another excellent stumping from in-form keeper Ducker and a splendid one handed catch from bowler Bunn saw the end of a good innings from C Read (38) and a lively cameo from J.Weston (11). Melton's skipper completed a good match by taking a third wicket in the over to give him figures of 3-0-11-3 and Daniel Hayward (3-2-8-2) brought the Hales innings to a swift end by taking the last 2 wickets in the next over.
