Impressive Debuts from Singleton and Beckett as U11s Win Again

GREAT MELTON U11s beat GARBOLDISHAM U11s by 3 wickets at Melton Park in the South Norfolk Community League

Good batting from Will Singleton and Lewis Thurston saw Melton U11s to a narrow victory over Garboldisham in the South Norfolk Community League.  The visitors, having been invited to bat by Melton captain Aimee Palmer, totalled 56-4 from their 16 overs, Melton's bowlers contributing 31 wides to that total!  However, they still returned useful figures.  With several of the side's regular players unavailable it was a good opportunity to give some squad members a game and Max Beckett, in particular, bowled well, taking 1-7 from his 2 overs.  Lewis Thurston (1-13) was the other wicket-taker with the two other dismissals coming from run outs by Thurston,  helped by stand-in wicketkeeper Arvind Shanmugan, and Wilson.

Melton's innings also got off to a bad start with both Palmer (6) and Kyle Weston (3) run out and Parick Walton (0) and Craig Wilson (1) bowled with only 26 on the board.   The other debutant, Will Singleton, showed some resillience, however, and together with Lewis Thurston, helped Melton edge towards victory.  Thurston then hit 2 fours and a 6 off the 12th over to bring the scores level and, fittingly, it was left to Singleton to hit the winning run.
