Hughes Hits 73 in U13s Winning Start
GREAT MELTON (130-3) BEAT HETHERSETT & TAS VALLEY (95-5) by 35 RUNS
Fergus Hughes hit 73 and took 2-12 as Great Melton U13s opened their South Norfolk Community League campaign with a 35-run victory over Hethersett & Tas Valley.ย The visitors won the toss and decided to put Great Melton into bat. Melton lost their first wicket, Ryan Howard for 3 runs with the score on 17. This brought Patrick Walton to crease who, together with Hughes, put on a partnership of 90 runsย beforeย being bowled out for 15.ย Hughes was then run out in the following overย for aย very good 73 which included 14 fours. Tom Moye (7 not out) and Luke Richards (10 not out) thenย saw out the last 2 overs to bring Melton's final score to 130-3.ย Jonny Cooper 3-0-14-1 and O.South 3-0-14-0 were the pick of Hethersett's bowlers.
Hethersett went into bat requiring 8 an over, but lost their first wicket, L.Simmonds, ย 4 when he was run out by Hughes. This brought T.Worley to the crease and, with Cooper, heย put on nearly fifty runs before the latter was bowled by Craig Wilson for 27.ย T.Worley continued to bat well, but the last 2 overs saw E.Blowfield (4), bowled by Hughes, O.South (0) stumped by Moye and B.Woodruff (0) run out by Moye.ย Despite Worley finishingย unbeaten on 28ย Melton won fairly comfortably byย 35 runs. The pick of Melton's bowlers wereย Wilson (3-0-13-1) & Hughes (3-0-12-2) and Matt Ling was outstanding in the field.
The previous night the U11s had been due to play their first match at home to Fakenham but, disappointingly,ย the visitors were unable to raise a side so Melton have been awarded the 2 points.
