Hat-trick’s Galore as Melton Make it Three Out Of Three in Zip League

2015_U14 Zip LeagueAn hat-trick by Charlie Green and a hat-trick of catches for both Rebecca Greenslade and Cameron Graveling added to an impressive batting performance, meant that Melton's Zip League team go into the Christmas break second in the table behind Topcroft.

A stunning 113-run victory over Rocklands brought a plethora of bonus points that moved Melton into title contention.  Previously two relatively narrow wins had been based on excellent bowling but, against Rocklands, Melton produced a much-improved batting display to post an impressive 205-2, a net score of 190.  Skipper-for-the-day Becky Greenslade set the tone after losing the toss as her and Kai Wilkinson-Loines added 36 without loss after their 4 overs.  Olly Black and James Bridges then added a further 34 as Melton moved to 170-0.  There was some joy for Rocklands as Charlie Green was dismissed twice – once in the 11th ‘power play' over – but 35 runs were still added by he and Cameron Graveling as Melton reached their highest total so far.

The team's strength is always the accuracy of it's bowling and, once again, it proved much too good for Rocklands who lost 13 wickets in scoring just 151 to leave them a massive 113 runs adrift of Melton. There were three catches each by Becky and Cameron, his first a superb reaction catch, plus further catches by Olly and Kai.  Then the penultimate over saw Charlie put any batting disappointments behind him with a hat-trick (2 caught, 1 bowled) as he returned figures of 2-0-4-3.  Becky (2-0-8-2), Olly (2-1-3-0), Kai (2-0-15-1 including a power-play over), James (2-1-7-3) and Cameron (2-0-14-2, including a power-play over) all bowled excellently in a very impressive performance.

Things will get tougher after Christmas, though, as Melton come up against champions Great Ellingham and top-of-the-table Topcroft.
