Great Melton U15’s Topsy Turvey Season Continues

Great Melton U15s topsy-turvy season continued with two victories and a defeat in their last three matches.

Great Melton U15s beat Great Ellingham U15's by 19 Runs in the Andy Seeley Competition on 16th June

On a pleasant Tuesday evening at Great Ellingham, Melton opened the batting with Fergus Hughes (32 retired) & Luke Richards (2). Fergus started very positively quickly getting to 32, but not before Luke was caught off Trett's bowling in the 5th over. This meant Melton had 2 new batsmen at the crease as Fergus had to retire. Pat Walton (30 retired) & Kyle Weston (34 retired) continued the positive start both hitting plenty of boundaries including 1 six from Kyle. Melton lost their second wicket in the 13th over when Finlay Hughes (1) was caught off M.Daly's bowling and soon to follow Matt Ling (0) caught off Freston's bowling. Samson Magesh (2 not out) & Lewis Thurston (1 not out) saw the innings out with Melton finishing with 141-3 which included 38 extras.

Great Ellingham started their innings as Melton did theirs with H.Spelman (31 retired) & H.Lake (30 retired) hitting plenty of boundaries. This looked like it was going to be a very close match, but once the 2 openers retired Great Ellingham struggled to continue at the rate required, losing their first wicket in the 14th over R.George (8) caught by Matt of Finlay's bowling and then O.Hannett (8) bowled by Finlay in the final over. After 16 overs Great Ellingham finished on 123-2 with C.Freston (12 not out & J.Trett (1 not out) still at the crease.

Cringleford U15s beat Great Melton U15s by 4 wickets on 18th June

It all started really well with Melton picking up two early wickets in the first and second over. R.Duffy got run out by Fergus without scoring and L.Taylor also didn't trouble the scorers being caught by Kai Wilkinson-Loines off James Bridges' bowling. This is when the match turned with Cringleford regaining their composure and opener I.Singh (77) starting to dominate the batting. He was helped by J.Curtis (26) putting on a partnership of over 70 in 8 overs and moving the score onto 84 before J.Curtis was bowled by Samson Magesh getting his debut wicket off his first ball of his spell. I.Singh continued to play his shots as before but was run out for an excellent 77 in the final over. Cringleford lost one more wicket of M.Gaskins (8) who was caught by M.Ling off Kyle Weston's bowling. Cringleford finished on 130-5 which included 18 extras off Melton's bowling attack which struggled to tame I.Singh.

Melton started knowing they needed to score at over 8.5 runs per but it didn't start well losing Kyle Weston (0) getting caught by Taylor off Duffy's bowling in the first over. Fergus Hughes (36) & Thomas Moye (25) then put on 55 over the next 7 overs. Fergus was then caught by Taylor off Ellis' bowling in the 8th over.
