Great Melton U13’s Still Unbeaten in the South Norfolk Community League

GREAT MELTON U13s beat SWAFFHAM U13s by 4 wickets at Melton Park in the South Norfolk Community League

Swaffham won the toss and chose to bat first on a very warm summer’s evening at Melton Park. Melton opened the bowling with Ben Bailey and Kyle Weston with Weston taking the wicket of Eves for 0 in his first over and Bailey only conceding 4 runs off his 2 overs. It wasn’t until the tenth over that Melton struck again with Aimee Palmer getting 2 wickets in 2 balls to remove Stains (14) and Reynolds (0). Melton continued to bowl well and managed to remove three more batsmen before the innings ended. Palmer had Hutchinson (4 ) caught by Tom Moye, Howling (0) was then bowled by Moye before Craig Wilson got the sixth wicket of Wales for 11.  It meant Swaffham finished on 59-6. Melton used all their bowlers: Bailey (2-0-4-0), Weston (2-0-11-1), Richards (2-0- 12-0), Wilson (3-1-4-1), Howard (2-0-6-0), Palmer (3-0-10-3) and Moye (2-0-11-1)

Melton went into bat with Moye and Wilson opening, requiring 60 to win off 16 overs. Both started very quickly hitting some very classy bounderies which moved the score on to 48-0 off 4 overs before Wilson was run out for 19. Weston was bowled by Howling without scoring which brought Ryan Howard to the crease. Moye was then caught in the next over off Reynolds for 25, but not before hitting a 6 in the previous over. This brought in Luke Richards with Melton requiring just 3 runs to win. A wide accounted for 2 before, Howard  (4 not out) won the match in the 6th over with a boundary off Reynolds.

It was a comfortable victory for the U13s which continued their winning run in the South Norfolk Community League but it also provided players like Bailey, Wilson and Weston with opportunities to bat or bowl.
