Gladiator Greenslade Slays the Lions!

Melton Phoenix U17s beat Lowestoft Lions U17s by 7 wickets at Melton Park in the Bob Carter Junior Cup

Great Melton won their final Zone 3 match and with three wins out of three, qualify for the Quarter Final stage of the Bob Carter Junior Cup where they will meet the runners up of Zone 1 on Sunday July 31st.  Great Melton won the toss and captain George Bunn put Lowestoft into bat and this proved to be a good move as opening bowler Nick Gristwood (4-1-10-4) ripped into the Lowestoft batting with 4 wickets leaving the visitors struggling at 25-4 after 11 overs.  Simon Brett supported (6-0-17-0) Gristwood in the opening spell then Craig Woolrich (6-0-19-2) and Michael Farmer (9-0-25-2) took 2 wickets each to have Lowestoft standing at 68-8 after 23 overs.  Lowestoft, with only 10 players looked down and out but Hayden Rogers (31) and Connor Nixon (17no) put on an impressive last wicket stand of 46 runs before Bunn finally removed Rogers with a splendid catch of his own bowling.

The Melton innings started shakily when Vivek Sharma was out caught for 1 in the third over then his fellow opening batman Ed Allen (4no) had to retire hurt through injury but this brought Chris Greenslade (64no) and George King together and they took the score to 78 before King was out for 21.  George Bunn then joined Greenslade who was in splendid form and hit a glorious 6 to get his half-century.  Bunn contributed 10 runs before being bowled and Nick Gristwood then joined Greenslade as they made the winning runs.  Lowestoft bowlers Harvey Hebditch, Hayden Rogers and Lois Cook took 1 wicket each.
