First Win For U15s in Andy Seeley Cup

Great Melton U15s beat Rocklands U15s by 44 runs at Melton Park in the Andy Seeley Cup

After the disappointment of getting knocked out of the ECB competition Melton U15s welcomed Rocklands U15s to Melton Park. On a bright Thursday evening, after winning the toss Melton chose to bat first . Fergus Hughes and Thomas Moye gave Melton a great start putting on 49, helped by numerous wides before Thomas (5) was bowled by Barlow. There were then 2 quick wickets: Luke Richards (1) bowled by Coates and Kyle Weston (0) also bowled by Coates. Matt Ling (8) then came into bat and hit 2 very good fours before being bowled by Gordan. Fergus then reached his 50 which included 1 six and 7 fours which meant he had to retire. This left Aimee Palmer (5 Not Out) and Pat Walton (10 Not Out) to see the innings out with Melton finishing on 102-4 which looked a little short.

Rocklands went into bat knowing they only needed 6.5 runs per over for victory. This was made more difficult when Finlay Hughes (3-1-9-3) in his first over took 2 wickets and then another one in his second. Luke Richards (3-0-11-1) also picked up a wicket with his final ball of his spell which meant after 6 overs Rocklands were 21-4. Melton then controlled the game with some good bowling from Pat Walton (3-0-6-0), Thomas Moye (3-1-6-0), Kyle Weston (2-1-15-0), Aimee Palmer (1-1-0-0) and Fergus Hughes (1-0-8-0). This meant that even though Rocklands didn't lose any more wickets they could only manage to get 58-4 after 16 overs. This was a very good bowling display by Melton but, apart for Fergus, some work to do on their batting.
