First Win For Girls at Mundford

GREAT MELTON U13 GIRLS beat MUNDFORD by 44 runs at Mundford in the South Norfolk Community League

The Girls recorded their first win of the season against Mundford last Thursday. They didn’t start well when confusion saw Rebecca Greenslade being sent back to the pavilion without facing a ball. Holly Marchant and Beth Harmer started to build a partnership but Harmer's quick 18 came to an end, Herathge was bowled for one and Marchant then departed for 6. Just as Lucy Morton and Cassie Mawby (8) started to look threatening bowler Norbow claimed another wicket. Alice  Greenslade was run out which then left Sabina Baker on debut to score 1 run as Melton Girls finished on 101-6, ‘extras' helping them to a better score than the week before.

Beth Harmer opened the bowling and there was  a run out in the first over thanks to a good throw from Mawby. Harmer then continued to dismantle Mundford's batting attack claiming another 2 wickets for herself. After dropping her first catch Alice Greenslade had another opportunity and managed to hold onto it giving April Herathge a wicket, Herathge finishing with figures of 3-1-5-2. Morton finished things off bowling the Mundford number 8 as the home side finished on 57 all out.

Both teams the girls have played against, Old Buckenham & Mundford,  have had girls playing in their sides and it’s great to see other clubs getting girls involved and increasing girl participation in cricket.

Thank you again to Richard Mawby for scoring, Nick Morton for umpiring and Joey Greenslade for coaching. A mention must also go to the parents who had to make the journey to Mundford.

The Under 13s Girls have Rocklands and Mulbarton away in two weeks’ time as well as the Boys V Girls match which is still to be arranged but will definitely be one to watch!
