First Junior Match Brings Victory for U13s

GREAT MELTON U13s beat DISS U13s by 69 runs at Melton Park in the Alan Bridgewater Cup

A convincing performance by the U13s got the junior fixture programme off to a winning start against Diss at Melton Park.  Saxon Earley (27), James Bridges (31 retired), Lohit Kannan (29 retired) and Cameron Graveling (28 not out) all batted well, striking a number of excellent boundaries that included two big sixes by James, as Melton totalled 133-3.  Charlie Green (played on) and Ethan Rushton (caught behind off a faint edge) were both out without scoring but contributed later to a good all-round bowling and fielding display.  Josh Heaton was Diss’s best bowler with 2-0-11-1 and he also proved to be their best batsman, scoring 25 before Oli Leinster surprised himself and most of his teammates by holding onto a catch at mid-0ff!

Diss never looked like getting close to Melton’s total, despite Heaton’s efforts and those of Harry Skillerton who hit 3 fours in his 13,  and their innings ended on 64-3 with Anoushka Williamson (7 not out) having resisted stubbornly.  Olly Black (3-1-4-1) was the pick of Melton’s bowlers, his away swing causing problems for the Diss batsmen, but Bridges (2-1-4-0) and spinners Kannan (2-0-6-1) and Graveling (2-0-4-1) also bowled very impressively.  Earley led the team well and added a sharp stumping to his 27 runs.
All in all a very promising start.
