Fifer For Tom Smith but B Team Batting in Need of Improvement

GREAT MELTON B (7 points) lost to HORSFORD B (24 points) by 25 runs at Manor Park in the Lucas & Fettes Norfolk League Division 2

On winning the toss Melton skipper, David Bunn, elected to bowl first on a green top and immediately found success reducing Horsford to 2-12 after 3 overs. Ball held sway over bat with Tom Smith bowling particularly well, finishing with excellent figures of 10.5-2-30-5 as Horsford were dismissed for 144, a total Melton should have been capable of chasing down.

After tea batting again proved difficult, however, against some interesting seam bowling of a unpredictable nature. Horsford took wickets on a regular basis and were helped by some loose shots. Melton finished on 119 all out largely thanks to a 34-run last wicket partnership between Jake Mardell (20) and Tom Smith (9 not out).  Ed Allen (22) showed promise in his debut game of the season but overall it was a poor batting display with plenty of room for improvement.
