Farmer Leads By Example as U15s Beat Rocklands
GREAT MELTON U15s beat ROCKLANDS U15s by 4 wickets at Melton Park in the South Norfolk Community League
Skipper Michael Farmer led by example, taking as 1-6 in 3 overs then hitting 47 runs as Melton produced a much-improved batting dispay to beat Rocklands by 4 wickets. Rocklands, batting first, scored 107-3, Craig Ellis hitting 25, C.Barlow 17 and Matt Thresh carrying his bat for 14 but, as in their last game against Ellingham, Melton’s erratic bowlers made life difficult for wicketkeeper Hannah Brook and 47 ‘extras’ were conceded, although Zef Ishtiaq (3-0-11-0) and Farmer were exempt from criticism. A feature of Melton’s fielding display were two superb catches, one by Sam Carding to dismiss County player, Matt Miners and the other a brilliant one-handed diving effort from Craig Woolrich.
The batting, though, was much better with Farmer and Craig Woolrich racing to 68 off just 7 overs before Woolrich was out for 22. Farmer fell 3 short of an excellent fifty, bowled by a superb delivery from Lisa Miners that spun sharply but brothers Sam (13 not out) and Ben Carding (14 not out) played some fine shots and, for the second match in succession, saw Melton to victory with 4 overs to spare.
