Excellent Bowling Performance as U13s Win at Rocklands

GREAT MELTON U13s beat ROCKLANDS U13s by 19 runs at Rocklands in the Alan Bridgewater Competition

Melton recovered from losing skipper Saxon Earley playing on to the first ball of the match to record a narrow victory against a well drilled Rocklands team.

Following his early arrival at the crease, James Bridges built what was to be the most impressive innings of the match hitting 5 of the 8 boundaries recorded by the batsmen in this match, where the ball dominated.  Charlie Green (22) kept the strike turning over and a 51 partnership was scored in 10 overs by the time James retired.

Acceleration proved difficult for Lohit Kannan (13no) and Charlie and more running pressure might have been applied on the fielding side. However, the score mounted steadily against accurate bowling with 3 wickets being sacrificed in the final over.

While defending a total of 77 was going to be challenging the opening spell from James Bridges and Charlie Green of 6 overs for 13 runs gave the fielding team the belief they needed. The loss of opener Jamie Taylor bowled through the gate by Bridges brought the impressive Luke Webster (22no) to the crease.  Josh Wright and Ben Granville maintained the accuracy of the bowling, yielding only 19 from the next 5 overs and Ben persuaded the increasingly frustrated Andrew Thresh to loft a drive to be caught by James Bridges.  Saxon Earley took 2 for 7 as the run pressure began to tell on the home side with Lohit Kannan taking 1 for 4 to effectively close out the victory in the penultimate over.

An excellent all round bowling and fielding display led to a Melton victory by 19 runs in this competitive fixture.
