Double Delight For Bs

GREAT MELTON B (25 points) beat HAPPISBURGH (6 points) by 71 runs at Town Close in the Lucas & Fettes Norfolk League Division 2

The B team delivered a comprehensive and polished performance to complete a season double over Happisburgh at Town Close School.  With the sun shinning (for once) Melton lost he toss and Happisburgh had no hesitation in electing to bowl first on a damp wicket. Melton's father and son opening pair, Steve & Neal Clarke, batted well against a strong opening attack to see Melton through the first 12 overs before Neal Clarke (9) was out looking to accelerate the run rate, thereafter a 74 run partnership between Steve Clarke (60) and Eusha Fawad (21) took Melton to 106 – 2 off 30 overs. With wickets in hand the last 15 overs yielded a further 66 runs with excellent contributions from George Ducker (14) and fifteen year old Craig Woolrich with a key 25 not out including 11 of the last over.   On a wicket that no batsman never really felt in on and with a slow outfield 172 was a very challenging and ultimately unassailable total.

After a fine Clarke family tea Happisburgh started their reply and got of to a steady start. However, disciplined seam bowling from Gary Coulson (2-26), Tom Smith (0-22) and Ryan Hayward (2-30) restricted the run rate. However star of the bowling show was Chris Wright making his B team debut this season who took 5-20 from 12 overs, backed up by excellent ground fielding, catching and wicket keeping.   Happisburgh were finely all out in the 37th over for 101.

Also I must make mention that all eleven players attended the fines session after the game which completed an excellent day for the B team at Town Close before many players headed back to Melton Park for further refreshment.
