Disappointing Start to Season for U15s

Brooke U15’s beat Great Melton U15’s by 10 runs at Brooke in the Andy Seeley Trophy

On a warm and pleasant evening on Monday 9 May, Great Melton travelled to Brooke to start off their season in the Andy Seeley Trophy. Melton won the toss and chose to put Brooke into bat. Melton got the early wicket of J.Hambling (3) who was caught and bowled by Luke Richards in the second over but had to wait until the last ball of the final over before they struck again with J.Wickes (19) being bowled by captain Thomas Moye. This was not before Brooke had batted very well striking the ball well and playing some very good shots. With opener F.Horner retiring on 33 and D.Clarke also retiring on 30 Brooke finished with 140-2 from their 16 overs.

Melton didn’t get off to a very good start, losing opener Luke Richards (1) who was stumped in the second over. They then lost their other opener, Kyle Weston (2), in the sixth over who was caught off J.Hambling’s bowling. Melton looked to be in trouble, but Thomas Moye and Craig Wilson got Melton back in the match with a partnership totalling more than 70 runs before Craig Wilson (30no) had to retire getting his highest ever score. Next over saw Thomas (33no) retiring which left Rachel Hustler (7no) & Kai Wilkinson-Loines (1no) to see out the last few balls with Melton finishing on 130-2 which was only 10 runs short of Brooke’s total. Melton may have got closer but facing 17 wides & 2 no balls it was sometimes impossible to get bat on ball.

While the batting of both teams was impressive, the bowling and fielding was not so good and, with Melton in the end getting to within 10 runs of Brooke’s big total, they were left to rue a few misfields and dropped catches.
